A letter from your school board about the Oregon City School District Bond
Dear Oregon City Community,
Over the last 25 years, our school district has made progress on a three-phase plan to make schools safe, healthy, and accessible. The 2000 bond funded a new high school and the 2018 bond renovated both middle schools while funding security updates across the district.
The district’s six elementary schools have been the last to receive upgrades. The average age of our elementary schools is 62 years and all six buildings have not been renovated since they were built. These schools have roofs, plumbing, and heating systems that are failing. And all of them lack air conditioning in the classroom. Additionally, Oregon City High School has fields, grounds, and Career and Technical Education spaces in need of updates and repair.
This November, the district has placed a school bond on the ballot, Measure 3-616. If passed, the proposed bond would update and repair every elementary school and make targeted investments at Oregon City High School. Bond funds cannot be used for district operations, salaries or other expenses and 100% of funds would be used locally for Oregon City schools. An independent citizen Bond Oversight Committee would be established to oversee the use of bond funds if the bond measure passes.
Please read the back side of this letter for more information about how this bond would impact Oregon City schools. We encourage you to vote in this election and all upcoming elections.
Sincerely,
Katie Wilson
